Our first activity was called orphans and vulnerable children. We were looking for places where orphans and other vulnerable people could be seen and treated at least once a week and whenever necessary. We used the medical equipment we received after graduating from university, and whenever we could, we bought some necessary medicines.
Through this initiative, some orphans and some elderly people could count on us for several months. Their faces were full of joy and confusion, and we could almost hear their thoughts: Is it really free? Why? Are they real doctors? They are so young.
We didn’t earn money but we earned more than that; respect, love and integrity. We gave everything, we were not afraid to walk for days in the hot sun of Bujumbura, going to places we didn’t know before so we could offer them support.
